About This Musical
Number of Speaking Roles: 31 | Runtime: 80 minutes | Original NZ-Made Songs: 10
The top space men and women from around the world have united for a truly astronomical mission that is out of this world.
Led by top British astronaut Tom Sensible, they embark on a dangerous assignment to see if global warming has in fact made the earth so warm that it’s dripping water the way an ice-cream does on a hot day.
Unfortunately after lift off, their navigation system malfunctions and they lose contact with Earth. Floating around lost in space they have to find their way back home. But what they find instead may mean the end of not only their mission, but their very survival.
Will they get back to Earth safely?
Are we the only intelligent life forms in this universe?
Does Earth need a bucket under it to catch all the dripping water?
All will be revealed in the Search for S.O.A.P
Scenes & Songs & Script
Scene One
We meet our chosen astronauts who represent every continent on our planet. The audience is introduced to the very different skills and personalities each astronaut will bring to the mission.
Scene Two
In the home of our mission leader - Tom Sensible is spending countless hours going over the mission. Unfortunately, his two children never get to spend time with him as he is so busy. Wanting to see him before he goes to space, Tom ignores them - which leads them to come up with a plan to see more of their father.
Scene Three
It is the day of the liftoff. Everyone is excited to go and ready to embark on the mission. After everyone says goodbye to their families, the astronauts step into their rocket. Mission Control helps them blast into space but when their ship encounters a problem, they lose contact with Earth.
Scene Four
Our astronauts are lost in space and are not sure what to do. To make matters worse, Tom’s children, Michaela and Sam have stowed away and are also on the ship. The Russian Cosmonaut, Dropski has found what she thinks is Earth - and they make their way to the planet.
Scene One
Our Astronauts land on a planet that is not Earth, but it is inhabited by an intelligent alien life form - called Specials. The Specials teach their visitors that everyone has a special role to play, whether they are young or old, or different from one another.
Scene Two
Back in the spaceship, Tom’s children help the astronauts solve a problem to help them find Earth again. They need to fix their communication controls. The Russian Cosmonaut, Dropski has found a planet they can land on so they can repair their ship.
Scene Three
Our astronauts land on this Earth-like planet and start to fix their communication device. They are met by strange creatures called Meeple - who exhibit the many different moods and characteristics of humans. Once the ship is repaired, the Astronauts are back on their way to find Earth.
Scene Four
Still trying to find Earth, and with their communication restored, our Astronauts realise they do not have enough fuel to reach Earth. As luck would have it, they are contacted by species on another planet and invited to land there. Knowing they can’t get to Earth with their limited fuel, they take the chance and the alien’s invitation.
Scene Five
Landing on a beautiful planet that is abundant with many natural resources (including rocket fuel), our Astronauts meet the ‘Beings’ who are an alien life form that are grounded in the values that we find important on Earth (these can be linked to your school values). Our astronauts also learn that because they have all worked together to look after their planet - life is easier and more enjoyable.
Scene Six
With their ship fully operational, they are able to contact Mission Control, and with the help of Michaela and Sam, are able to locate Earth.
Scene Seven
Our astronauts make it back safely to a hero's welcome, bringing home the knowledge they have learned on their journey to save the planet.
